Saint Laurent also dished up some lovely designs, reissuing a dozen plates Gio Ponti devised in 1957 for his Venezuelan Villa Planchart Segnaposto. Hermés sought to collapse past and present with a dramatic, social-media-ready presentation of its new home collection that mixed heritage jockey silks and whips with equestrian-themed dinner service and blankets. And Lucia Echavarria, the fashion designer behind Magnetic Midnight, used her Alcova interior at Villa Borsani as a stage for the handicraft traditions of her native Colombia. Some 80 artisans—straw marquetry mavens from Pasto and Caña Flecha weavers from Tuchin among them—helped craft the stylish range of furniture, carpets, and more for the inaugural home collection from Magnetic Midnight Maison. The thing about Milan Design Week—those sprawling, fizzy springtime days and nights in which an ever-growing constellation of interventions, exhibitions, galleries, and pop-ups seek to complement Salone del Mobile, regarded as the world’s largest furniture and design fair—is that no matter what, you miss most of it. An appointment with a respected designer at her showroom means your taxi, should you find one, will never make it to the city outskirts to see the show of up-and-comers everyone is talking about at the drinks you won’t make it to because of the dinner at a legend’s astonishing palazzo.

Google Pixel Tablet: Final Thoughts

Although it might not launch a new tablet, it’s actually encouraging to hear that Google is continuing to support its only tablet not just with software updates but new accessories as well. These are accessories it could have launched on day one, however, but that would have probably muddled the message it was trying to send. It tried to set the Pixel Tablet apart from the iPads and Galaxy Tabs of the market by focusing on its benefits at home. Now it’s sending a different message, one that says it’s finally safe to go out.

An NFL star nursing bum knees opens his house to a divorcée and her rambunctious kids, and later clashes with an arrogant physician after investing in a clinic. Nowadays, the mother of one (she has a sweet daughter named Madeline) has pivoted to copywriting and content strategy for brands such as American Express, Celsius, Nectar, and Nutrafol. Well, it’s the same old song and dance—ratings dipped, and the show couldn’t keep up with the heavy hitters.

Fitness instructor and healthy eating proponent Alex Wach was a main cast member on Season 6 of Summer House. That said, some friends do stick around — never leave us, Lindsay Hubbard! — and even show up in the colder seasons, thanks to Winter House. As Chance the Rapper once said, "Summer friends don't stay" and, as the cast of Grease added, "It turned colder, that's where it ends." Notable for also sharing a universe with Fresh Prince, Carlton and Ashley Banks guest-starred in an episode as well as James Avery reprising Uncle Phil as a mediator in a guest spot. After the second season, the series was retooled and became more adult-oriented. Jackie and Austin both moved back East while Tiffany stayed behind with Marion to finish high school.

What happened to Lisa in the Wayans brothers?

After five seasons of laughs and drama, the network pulled the plug, leaving fans wanting just one more episode. Surprising us yet again, several alumni joined the cast of “The Fall,” a show as dramatic as an operatic climax. Critics and audiences watched with bated breath as our in the house cast members, transformed to offer layered, gripping performances. Indeed, every episode left viewers examining the depth of the human psyche, much like what happens when one peeks into Zion National park weather — unpredictable yet mesmerizing.

But like a boomerang, she swung back around for the fifth season to give us a little more of that Tiffany charm. As for Debbie Allen on “In the House,” she was the cat’s meow for a solid three seasons. With every turn, Debbie brought a dose of her dazzle to the show, leaving a lasting impression on the fans. On “In the House,” Jackie and Austin’s problems cropped up quicker than a rabbit on a date. Their story was a rollercoaster of jobs coming and going, relationships hitting the skids and, well, life tossing them lemons. By the time the show wrapped up, they weren’t exactly sitting pretty, but like a cat, they always landed on their feet.

Where is Amit Neuman from Summer House now?

LL Cool J, our very own Marion Hill, leaped from the comfy cushion of “In the House” straight into the hustle of Hollywood. Diving into music, film, hosting—you name it, he’s mastered it. Years down the line, the kids have grown, and so have their résumés. The core members of the cast have since danced through life’s various stages, some sticking to their acting roots while others branching out into exciting new frontiers.

The show wasn’t just a platform for laughs; it was a launching pad for burgeoning talent. For these stars, the sitcom was both a playground and a springboard, catapulting them from a cozy living room to the bedazzling lights of stardom. After a series of questions about Trump's interest in the casting of "Celebrity Apprentice," prosecutors object. The RHONJ star answered several questions about filming Season 14 while her makeup artist got her dolled up during the spicey Q&A. Cat King is a seductive shape-shifter who takes a liking to Edwin. Costume Designer Kelli Dunsmore told Tudum that she wanted Cat King to have a concurrent femininity and masculinity about him.

With a heart as big as his frame, Big Ben was the teddy bear you didn’t want to mess with, but always wanted in your corner. Brianna was the sweetest pie on “In the House,” and you best believe that little pixie was played by the adorable Kyla Pratt. Dolittle,” she was stirring up cute trouble as Marion’s little cousin. With her charm and style, she turned heads and stirred the pot at Marion’s crib, becoming an unforgettable face everyone looked forward to seeing when the credits rolled.

Though he played a character with financial troubles, LL Cool J’s career hasn’t slowed down in decades. He’s widely considered one of the most iconic rappers of all time. Since the end of In The House, he has guest-starred on various game shows and even hosted a few.

And we, as the enraptured audience, are all the richer for it. Like a warm hug from an old friend, reunions of the in the house cast have been the comfort food for our souls. Be it a candid Instagram post or a well-organized event, those gatherings whipped up a nostalgia so powerful, it could transport fans back to their childhood living rooms. This show of solidarity speaks volumes of the bond shared amongst the cast and their undying affection towards a show that is clearly more than just credits on their IMDb page. Following the conclusion of In The House in 1999, LL Cool J kept the music rolling with his eighth album, G.O.A.T. This was his first and, to date, only album to top the Billboard 200 charts.

Fourteen of those Democrats voted on Saturday in favor of aid to Israel, while 12 Democrats who voted to allow the package on the floor on Friday then cast votes against the funding itself. Playing Marion Hill, the ex-football player turned kiddo caretaker, LL Cool J brought the cool, muscle, and a dash of soft side that made folks swoon. Some cast members threw a curveball at the predictable narrative, jumping ship to explore entirely new adventures. Drawing awe and respect, these brave souls wholeheartedly embraced the art of reinvention. In a dazzling show of courage, they demonstrated that the playbook of life permits audibles, changing tides, and fresh starts at any season.

Mount Rushmore Presidents, Facts & Controversy

original mount rushmore design

All the cultures that make up the fabric of this country are represented by the memorial and surrounding Black Hills. One of the most important gifts we can give our visitors at Mount Rushmore National Memorial is an understanding and love for our nation's history and cultures and an appreciation of the importance of caring for that legacy. Mr. Robinson had originally conceived of a sculpture that would honor figures of the American West, such as Lewis and Clark or the Lakota leader Red Cloud. Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor chosen for the project, came up with a concept that honored four former commanders in chief. Mt. Rushmore National Monument was designed by sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum.

History

On Independence Day 1930, he was honored during a ceremony behind a massive American flag and his image was revealed. More than 400 workers carved 450,000 tons of rock over 14 years, resulting in no deaths. When Gutzon Borglum was commissioned to design a monument to America’s first four presidents, he knew that he wanted it to be something grand and original. The end result was the massive Mount Rushmore National Monument, which has become one of the most iconic images of the United States. Borglum’s initial design for Mount Rushmore was actually quite different from what we see today. He originally wanted to carve the faces of the presidents into a rock face that would have been visible from a great distance.

Was This the Original Mount Rushmore Design Before Funding Ran Out?

They come to marvel at the majestic beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota and to learn about the birth, growth, development and the preservation of our country. Over the decades, Mount Rushmore has grown in fame as a symbol of America-a symbol of freedom and hope for people from all cultures and backgrounds. A sculptor carved the engraving on Mount Rushmore with large, three-foot-tall letters in the territory of the Louisiana Purchase. Borglum convinced Robinson that the sculpture in South Dakota should depict George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, as that would give it national, and not just local, significance. He would later add Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt to the list, in recognition of their contributions to the birth of democracy and the growth of the United States. Mount Rushmore, located just north of what is now Custer State Park in the Black Hills National Forest, was named for the New York lawyer Charles E. Rushmore, who traveled to the Black Hills in 1885 to inspect mining claims in the region.

The clip is an excerpt from the Historical Footprints documentary "The Men Who Made Rushmore (Clip)."

From 1901 to 2009, he was president of the United States, one of the most prosperous periods in American history. In 1991, Mount Rushmore celebrated its 50th anniversary after undergoing a $40 million restoration project. The National Park Service, which maintains Mount Rushmore, records upwards of 2 million visitors every year. Meanwhile, many Sioux activists have called for the monument to be taken down, even as they continue to protest what they view as illegal U.S. possession of their ancestral lands. On July 4, 1930, a dedication ceremony was held for the head of Washington.

The epicenter of West Coast culture, it’s also home to world class restaurants, retail, real estate, and entertainment. Through hundreds of projects across all sectors, RSM Design joins hands with LA’s vibrant residents and bustling industry to build a better environment to live and work in. Although a number of events and issues influenced and altered Borglum's original vision, the main determiner of what would finally be cut into the granite was the mountain itself. Cracks and other "flaws" in the rock forced certain decisions about what could be done and what could not be. A working model in the artist's studio at the base of the mountain was a 1/12th-scale rendering of the sculpture as it was supposed to have looked as a finished artwork. Mount Rushmore National Memorial is host to just over two million visitors a year from across the country and around the world.

Controversy at the Memorial

Mount Rushmore required a team of over 400 people to construct it for more than 14 years. This group represents the American people’s contributions to the country’s development, growth, and preservation. Throughout the early years of the country, each man was heavily involved in shaping its course. Teddy Roosevelt’s leadership during the United States’ emergence as a global superpower.

Sculpting the Presidents at Mount Rushmore

But when Robinson wrote to Borglum he was working on his largest project yet—a bas-relief of Confederate leaders on Stone Mountain in Georgia. In August 1924, Robinson wrote to Gutzon Borglum, an ambitious sculptor who was already carving on a granite cliff face in Georgia. “He knew that Borglum would have the skills and knowledge to get something like this done,” says Amy Bracewell, park historian at Mount Rushmore. The missing busts is not the only detail where construction fell short of the original design.

original mount rushmore design

Creation of the sculpture

Huge representations of the heads of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, each about 60 feet (18 metres) tall, are carved in granite on the southeast side of Mount Rushmore. The mountain itself, at an elevation of 5,725 feet (1,745 metres), was named in 1885 for Charles E. Rushmore, a New York lawyer. The memorial, which covers 2 square miles (5 square km), was designated in 1925 and dedicated in 1927. The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) assumed administration of the site in 1933. Mount Rushmore was most famously the setting of the final chase scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 thriller North by Northwest. In 1958, the National Park Service granted Hitchcock permission to film at the memorial on the condition that it wouldn’t serve as the backdrop for any violent scenes.

He hired a sculptor named Gutzon Borglum to carve the faces into the mountain. The Lakota Sioux people, who consider the Black Hills to be sacred ground, strongly opposed the project. The mountain was previously part of the Great Sioux Reservation before being taken away from them by the U.S. government. During a second visit to the Black Hills in August 1925, Borglum identified Mount Rushmore as the desired site of the sculpture. Local Native Americans and environmentalists voiced their opposition to the project, deeming it a desecration of Sioux heritage as well as the natural landscape.

The civil rights movement of the 1960s inspired a wave of protest among Native Americans across the country. In the summer of 1970, protest came to Mount Rushmore when a few dozen activists from the organization United Native Americans scaled the memorial to demand the return of the Black Hills to the Lakota. They camped atop the memorial for months—and then returned the following summer for a briefer protest that ended in their arrests. Borglum had gained fame for sculptures honoring U.S. history—as well as his bombastic personality. In Georgia, he became involved with the Ku Klux Klan, which helped fund the Stone Mountain project.

In 1927, President Calvin Coolidge promised federal funding for the project, and U.S. In total, the bill authorized funds up to $250,000 (equivalent to $4 million in 2022). Mount Rushmore is rumored to have five faces, all of which are not present. The project was carried out between October 4, 1927 and October 31, 1941. In 2021, the National Park Service anticipates that 2.5 million visitors will come to the park.

The winner would have their words carved into some part of Mount Rushmore along with the four presidents. After winners were selected and prizes awarded, Borglum decided against carving any text into his sculpture. Due to the economic instability of the United States caused by the Great Depression, it was completed in seven years, and dedicated to the public on Independence Day 1934.

The Enduring History of the Olde Pink House of Savannah

the pink house savannah

Just as in 1771, the Olde Pink House remains a destination for those who seek to experience Georgian Savannah's splendor. Today, diners can still experience that refined grace as they step inside the Olde Pink House restaurant and enjoy Southern cuisine in spaces that have hosted Savannah society since the city's settlement. Upstairs you'll find a formal dining room, a large ballroom, and a small bar area to enjoy your time with family and friends. On the side of the restaurant, you'll find sidewalk seating as well as another bar.

The striking pink facade also rendered the mansion instantly recognizable in the local landscape, with the color chosen as a proud nod to Habersham's English heritage. We specialize in memorable dining experiences ranging from a quaint table for 2 in the Planters Tavern "Wine Vault", to a party of 400 guests reserving the entire mansion. When guests savor the cuisine, they take part in the continuing story of Southern food that fills this landmark with legacy. Crisp fried green tomatoes offer another taste of regional delicacies transformed by the Olde Pink House into appetizing works of art. The menu draws deeply from traditions and recipes perfected in local kitchens across generations. During this period, the mansion was less a family home or even hotel—it now bustled daily with patrons conducting business transactions and employees obediently working in their offices.

THE RESTAURANT IS KNOWN FOR ITS CLASSIC SOUTHERN DISHES LIKE SHRIMP & GRITS

The war had taken its toll on Savannah, so operating the old house as a hotel provided much needed accommodations. For over two centuries, the mansion has welcomed Savannah's elite through its doors, from the lavish parties of Habersham's era to the distinguished gentlemen's club operated out of the house in the 19th century. Standing stately in Reynolds Square, the Olde Pink House restaurant inhabits one of Savannah's finest examples of Georgian-style architecture.

THE OLDE PINK HOUSE IS ONE OF SAVANNAH'S MOST ICONIC & HISTORIC RESTAURANTS

This year, the dinner was graced by the luminous presence of stars such as Scarlett Johansson, Molly Ringwald, Lynda Carter and Chris Pine, who brought Hollywood glamour to the politically charged atmosphere of Washington. You'll find the portions to be large, the pricing to be fair, and the service to be great. The Olde Pink House is a large restaurant that recently underwent a massive renovation. The room we were seated in was so dark we couldn’t read our menu without our flashlights on our phones. The Olde Pink House is serving up southern charm and delicious food.

At a time when Savannah society was flourishing, the Clay family used the house to host elegant soirees and entertainments befitting their station. Exceptional local flavors thus converge within the historic rooms where Georgia's leaders once dined centuries ago. Dishes like the creamy shrimp and grits or silky she-crab soup allow diners to savor two of the Lowcountry’s quintessential flavors. Today diners bask in that historic ambiance carefully recaptured by the Strongs. With a vision to revive the mansion to its former elegance, the Strongs commissioned meticulous restorations of the original floorplan, doors, windows, and interior details.

Arched windows flanked by columns, iron-railed balconies, and a signature white ornamental iron fence cast in Savannah all exuded an air of refinement. In exploring the history of the Olde Pink House, we peel back the layers of this Southern icon to reveal its origins, illustrious inhabitants, and evolving identity across centuries at the heart of Savannah. The Olde Pink House (also known as The Pink House and, formerly, Habersham House) is a restaurant and tavern in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Located on Abercorn Street, in the northwestern trust lot of Reynolds Square, the building dates from 1771.[4] It is bounded by East Bryan Street to the north, Abercorn Street to the east and East Saint Julian Street to the south.

IN THE EARLY 1800S, THE MANSION WAS HOME TO SAVANNAH MAYOR JOSEPH CLAY

Built in 1777 for James Habersham Jr., the Olde Pink House was originally a mansion whose red bricks would bleed into the white plaster, turning the home pink. Today, it is a restaurant and tavern serving Savannah tourists from around the world. The appropriately-named Olde Pink House is easy to find, with its iconic shade of pink, right across from Reynolds Square. Adjacent to our historic Savannah hotel is The Olde Pink House, one of Savannah’s most popular restaurants. The food draws from regional tradition, but underneath the surface of fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits lies a storied landmark that has watched over Savannah from Reynolds Square for nearly 250 years.

Among the city’s most iconic historical treasures is the Olde Pink House restaurant, which has borne witness to Savannah society since 1771 within the elegant confines of an 18th century mansion. Haunted or not, the Olde Pink House is a place of history, cuisine and possibly ghosts. The kitchen fries the green tomatoes to perfection so diners can experience this Southern staple at its finest.

The seafood choices connect back to Savannah's traditions as a port city that has long drawn bounty from the Atlantic. When renovations were complete, the Habersham-Clay house had emerged as the Olde Pink House restaurant. By the early 20th century, the aging but still-stately former Habersham mansion had passed through many uses and owners. The mansion followed this trajectory when purchased in the 1870s by a consortium establishing a bank. The house glittered with candlelight while well-dressed gentlemen and ladies conversed over cards or music. The parties perfectly reflected the sophistication and gentility of Savannah's elite in that era.

With their low ceilings, fireplaces, and limited seating, they resemble the type of formal but cozy spaces where Georgia's early aristocracy would have entertained friends for elaborate dinners. The basement Planters Tavern transports guests back to 1855, when it first opened as an underground bar and billiards hall frequented by Savannah's gentlemen. Patrons dine immersed in the architecture and atmosphere of 18th century Savannah brought to life by one of its earliest leading citizens. When completed, the Habersham house stood among the grandest residences in Savannah.

The Olde Pink House is one of Savannah’s finest dining establishments, offering new Southern cuisine in a sophisticated, yet casual setting. The Olde Pink House is known for specialties like Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Bourbon Molasses, Crispy Scored Flounder with Apricot Shallot Sauce, and Corn Bread Fried Oysters. The stately mansion surely felt livelier during the Clay's residency than in its previous incarnation as a more staid family estate for James Habersham Jr.

Habersham had already amassed substantial wealth as a planter by the time he hired the architect William Jay to design his new Savannah estate. Savannah overflows with storied landmarks that transport visitors back through the ages. An almost-identical house was built in 1928[20] at 102 East Gaston Street,[21] just beyond the northeastern corner of Forsyth Park. If you need your guests to have an unforgettable experience, the Hayden Collective will deliver.

Its brick walls, burled wood accents, and dim atmosphere evoke 19th century revelry, likely not so different from when city leaders and planners would discuss business over cards and whiskey. With its pink stucco facade and white ornamental ironwork, the mansion emanates the elegance of 18th century life when it was first erected in 1771 for James Habersham Jr. The legacy of James Habersham is still honored through the surviving Habersham house, now the Olde Pink House restaurant. Over 250 years later, the mansion remains one of the premier illustrations of Georgian architecture in Savannah. The ornate brick and pink stucco edifice with its symmetrical layout exemplified the Georgian style then fashionable throughout the colonies.

During Clay's tenure as mayor of Savannah from 1805 to 1806, he and his family took up residence in the mansion. As Savannah progressed into the 19th century, the stately Habersham house passed into the hands of prominent political leader Joseph Clay. Between the food, decor, and architecture, the senses pick up on the echoes of Georgian and antebellum life that still linger within the Olde Pink House.

The Olde Pink House’s pink color isn’t a new development – it’s been part of the restaurant’s signature décor for almost 100 years. But the story behind the color is more elaborate than just a standard paint job, so the story can't be explained without diving into the restaurant's history. Through painstaking technique and time-honored family wisdom, the Olde Pink House kitchen channels history onto every plate. Stepping into the Olde Pink House today, patrons can embark on a culinary journey through Savannah's regional fare thanks to the restaurant’s meticulous attention to heritage Southern cuisine. The Olde Pink House transports modern patrons back through centuries of memories made within those walls. If only the walls could speak of Habersham's grand parties, the Clays' lively gatherings, or the bustle of Victorian bank tellers - all long gone but not forgotten.

In the same way that passerby identify with either the pink house or the black house, the aesthetics of the homes seem to match with their respective owners as well. Spica said the owner of the black house wouldn’t have bought the pink house and vice versa. It was just a fun Cape Cod-style property,” said WCI Group agent Jonathan Spica, who knows the owners of the pink house and handled the sale of the black house in 2021.

Additionally, there is a further controversy since it was originally opened as a tavern and not a residence. The model’s floor-length gown was constructed entirely from a finely woven tulle, giving the partially sheer garment an airy feel. Additionally, Rocha’s dress was designed with multiple sculptural elements including an exaggerated peplum waistline and extended capelette neckline. Our Tea Rooms have become a favorite for anyone that enjoys a conversation over traditional tea and scrumptious scones while being surrounded by art and decorations filled with history, love, and memories. That location can be booked for film shoots or events and commands anywhere between $3,500 and $10,000 per day. Another misconception is that the inside of the Barbie house matches the outside. Since it was built, it has always featured a neutral interior style with small improvements over the years.

Other early surviving structures in Charleston were built with local materials like wood (as with the Lining House we visited last week) or brick, which was sometimes covered with stucco and scored to appear as stone. The stately mansion surely felt livelier during the Clay's residency than in its previous incarnation as a more staid family estate for James Habersham Jr. But the Clays upheld the home's refined atmosphere, using its grand spaces as the backdrop for some of Savannah's most memorable early 19th century social events. Joseph's wife Mary was known as a consummate hostess who masterfully planned lavish dinners, musical evenings, and holiday balls in the mansion's spaces.

The Pink House is a favorite of artists, photographers, and visitors for several reasons. Third is the unusual shape when viewed from the left corner side; instead of being blocked by a house on the left, there is a parking lot. Through painstaking technique and time-honored family wisdom, the Olde Pink House kitchen channels history onto every plate. This practical chapter, though far removed from the structure's original purpose, became an important part of the historic mansion's story and connection to Savannah's past. Today, diners can still experience that refined grace as they step inside the Olde Pink House restaurant and enjoy Southern cuisine in spaces that have hosted Savannah society since the city's settlement.

In 2010, a dozen years after his death, his name was added to the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, a monument comprised of stars embedded in a downtown sidewalk that honors people who have made significant contributions to the city. Despite the split, their love remained strong, and a tragic event, Carey Hart’s brother’s passing, brought them back together. Never actually finalizing their divorce, the pair decided to give their marriage another chance. Not far from the living room, you’ll find the stunning dining room, perfect for entertaining guests or enjoying a quiet family dinner. In 2010, Pink and her husband, Carey Hart, acquired this remarkable Malibu residence, setting the stage for their expanding family – Pink was expecting their first child at the time. Nestled within a Point Dume gated community on 1.2 acres of lush terrain, the property, although not directly on the beach, offers access to Little Dume Point, a charming cove nearby.

Guests delighted in dancing the evening away in the grand first floor ballroom or discussing politics and business in the dining room over sumptuous meals. Pink's residence has striking blue exterior paint color on the outside walls. The remainder of Siriano’s spring 2024 ready-to-wear presentation included several garments dyed in the same shade of pastel pink, in addition to jet black, stark white, olive green and aquamarine blue. The collection additionally integrated similar textural touches and exaggerated silhouettes like those found in Rocha’s look, with many pieces designed using sheer textiles and large graphic shapes. Kay Sera describes herself as a "monochromatic." In 1980 on her 20th birthday, Kay Sera was dressed in head to toe pink.

The smashed avo toast with the tangy salsa, corn and jalapeno on top is also my jam. The cold-smoked salmon toast is amazing too, and I love all the little vegetable-packed, light but filling salads. With that in mind, here are some of my picks for Mother's Day brunch, ranging from the traditional to the decidedly not. Mother's Day meals are often synonymous with pink decor, photos of teacups and marketing calls to "pamper mom."

A formal dining room with a glistening gold and crystal chandelier just above it. A tiled courtyard that is both private and provides plenty of space for entertainment is accessed through stairs from both the gate and a separate stairway from the guesthouse. The outside offers a swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, and miles of grass to play on.

Tradition holds that it was used as a tavern -- it would have been a small place as the rear portion wasn't added until later. The Strongs filled the dining rooms with fine antiques and opened the restored cellar as a tavern. Their passion revealed the mansion's beauty once more, while retaining its 18th and 19th century character.

Choose Your Preferred Art x Platinum Design

That said, I like the looks of the floral design from Kehinde Wiley … so I requested one earlier today as a replacement for my existing Platinum Card. These new card designs will no doubt be conversation starters when Platinum cardholders pull them out of their wallets – and that's precisely what American Express was looking for as a part of this project. Delta and Amex launched the first version of the limited-edition 747 credit card in 2022. Twice as many cards will be produced this time, Amex said, due to the popularity of the previous offering. Receive a $100 statement credit if your qualifying Schwab holdings are equal to or greater than $250,000 or receive a $200 credit if your holdings are equal to or greater than $1,000,000 following card account approval and annually thereafter. 2 The Companion Ticket requires payment of the government-imposed taxes and fees of no more than $80 for roundtrip domestic flights and no more than $250 for roundtrip international flights (both for itineraries with up to four flight segments).

However, many Amex cards also include an array of shopping protections and travel protections that can cover you if (or when) things go wrong. Many Amex cards come with fixed credit lines, but others have no preset spending limits — though you must repay the balances in full and on time every month. If your score isn't quite where it needs to be yet, read our guides on improving your credit score and how using credit cards can help boost your score. Because it's a premium rewards card, the Amex Platinum Card is harder to get approved for than some other popular cards.

Even if you haven’t achieved Medallion status yet, this credit card adds you to the complimentary upgrade list (after Medallion-status members). You’ll also get a 20% statement credit on eligible inflight purchases when you use your SkyMiles Reserve card. First, small business owners who have under $50,000 in purchases and wants to minimize any extra costs will find tremendous value from this card’s straightforward point-earning approach. Or, if you already own other Amex cards that earn Membership Rewards points and want a card with an everyday rewards rate, the 2x is helpful for all purchases (given that you spend less than $50,000 per calendar year). This limited-edition card design is more than just an opportunity to show off to your friends when it comes time to pay the bill — it's a chance to own a piece of aviation history.

You can also put the credits toward UberEats orders for food or even groceries and household supplies. "We’re bringing back one of our most popular Card designs ever with a new look honoring the ‘Queen of the Skies," said Jon Gantman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cobrand Product Management at American Express. "Given the strong response from customers with our first Card design, we wanted to find another exciting opportunity for aviation enthusiasts and Card Members to have a piece of aviation history in their wallets." The Card is available exclusively for Delta SkyMiles® Reserve and Reserve Business Card Members from April 25 through June 5, 2024, while supplies last.

CLEAR® Plus isn't a government program so the application requirements are much less stringent than those of TSA PreCheck and Global Entry. Membership Rewards points don't have a fixed value, so it's a bit tricky to figure out how much they're worth. The first design choice that you will have with the Centurion card and only with the Centurion card is by Rem Koolhaas, who is a Dutch architect and professor in the practice of Architecture of Design at Harvard University.

If you already have the Delta Reserve card, you can call Amex and request a replacement card with the new design. As a new cardmember, you can choose between the Boeing 747 design and the card’s classic purple metal design when you apply. That may influence which products we write about, but it does not affect what we write about them. Once there, you’ll be able to choose which of the designs you’d like for your card. You can also use your Membership Rewards points to book travel directly through American Express Travel. But if the personal Amex Platinum is the only Amex card in your inventory, using points for airfare and hotel redemptions this way won't get you amazing value.

As a writer, artist and flutist, Johnna shares his passion for being creative. “It was obvious pretty quickly that we were really into each other,” he recalls. Food Network fans watched Duff create hundreds of over-the-top, hyperrealistic cakes at his Baltimore bakery Charm City Cakes for 10 seasons on Ace of Cakes. The baker and his team drew viewers in with their funny rapport and ingenious ideas about how to make an edible Jeep with working lights or the best way to transform a hunk of modeling chocolate into Betty White. Shulman’s photos show the house with reflecting pools and spider leg intact.

On Thursday, July 4th, Josephine House will be closedfor the holiday.

Despite the stunning vistas and storied provenance, however, when the house went on the market for $10.5 million in 2017, there wasn’t a buyer in sight. As the asking price continued to drop, the conservancy gave Naouri and Choi its blessing, and they bought the home as well as the hundreds of paintings in Robert Chuey’s estate last spring. “The size of the house was quite small for the price they were asking,” explains Los Angeles developer Philippe Naouri, who with partner Eric Choi bought the house two years later for the reduced price of $5.75 million. The modest 2,000-square-foot house “didn't match the price point” of the highly coveted 1.5 acres it sat on, Naouri says, tempting prospective buyers to raze the historic house and start fresh with a profitable 20,000-square-foot mansion.

Ho-hum empanadas, for instance, thrill again when they are filled with roasted onions and shishito peppers ($12). Now there’s a reason for me to be making toys,” he says. He’s made her a set of blocks, a busy board and a fish-shaped clock, and he’s working on a chameleon marionette. “I think if I wasn’t woodworking, if I wasn’t doing other creative things, playing music, I would probably miss it a lot more.” Plus, “there’s still a lot of baking in the house,” adds Duff, who shoots his cookbooks here. Duff credits his laid-back attitude to this house, where he and Johnna moved after their wedding — it’s surrounded by nature up a steep, unpaved road off a winding canyon highway — and all the hobbies he’s delved into here. He’s been making toys for their daughter Josephine, 2, and practicing the guitar for his band Foie Grock (a play on “foie gras” and “rock and roll”). Along with the house itself, the developers purchased the more than 200 paintings of Robert Chuey’s estate.

The menu changes daily and generally features healthy foods that belong to the season; the summer menu, for instance, relies heavily on tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and melon, all brightened with fresh herbs and local cheese. Smoked Gulf snapper on a salad of minted watermelon and cucumber ($18) struck the perfect note for a 103-degree day. A puff-pastry savory tart with roasted tomatoes and eggplant ($12) evoked picnics and croquet on grass-covered lawns. Chef Jen Jackson, formerly of Lenoir and Swift's Attic, has taken a few classy old standards and injected new life into them using a modern farm-to-table sensibility.

The guy behind Lamberts, Clark's, and Fresa's opens a new Clarksville spot

Rather than tear down any walls, Campbell’s creative solution is to repurpose it as a dining room and build a larger one in the new addition. In 1956, when the still-untamed Hollywood Hills were an experimental architectural lab, the modernist Richard Neutra designed a house there for the painter-and-poet couple Robert Chuey and Josephine Ain Chuey. Built in the International style, the house featured Neutra’s signature emphasis on the Southern California landscape, namely glass walls that let in natural light and framed 360-degree views of the hills and sea. It gave the Chueys space for Robert’s studio practice and their social experiments in psychedelics.

An old-fashioned vibe encapsulated at Josephine House

Brunch at Josephine House feels a little like dining at a friend’s (very nice) house. And the best part is that it’s available all week. This is one of our favorite spots in Clarksville for healthy-ish dishes—like the rice bowl served with roasted and pickled vegetables, arugula, and a poached egg.

Mediterranean culture, the 20th century avant-garde style and the history of art are the foundation of its creative conception. Their work has been recognized by the domestic and international press and media. On their first date they talked for seven hours, and two weeks later they took a spontaneous trip to Hawaii together.

Two houses refurbished with rest and comfort in mind. Two perfect accommodations to enjoy the good and simple life with friends or family. With a capacity of people (La Rioja) and 4-5 (Segovia), both are rented as a complete house.

Located in the heart of Madrid, on Calle Santa Ana 15 in Madrid's Rastro neighborhood, this space unites the concepts of a showroom (with pieces of furniture for sale) and a décor studio. It is characterized by its selection and edition of objects and artistic pieces. The lights in the house suddenly flick on as the power finally returns, and Duff lets out a little “Yay! ” in the middle of describing his own light-bulb moments with his daughter.

The light-filled house had doubled as his studio. What's the fastest way to take a trip through time? Go to Josephine House for lunch, where everything is staged with Southern Living nostalgia in mind, right down to marble counters, whitewashed shiplap walls, and the seersucker-uniformed staff. Josephine House is the type of place where you can easily dither away the afternoon sipping iced teas and grazing on cool melon salads. A huge oak shades the patio while the low hum of oscillating fans lulls you into a lazy midsummer languor.

However, since it opened in February, Josephine House has taken on a life of its own. Lunches and late afternoon comestibles at Josephine House stand on their merit. Josephine House, set in a little blue cottage in the charming Clarksville neighborhood just west of downtown Austin, is available for full buyouts that includes both Indoor and outdoor seating on the wraparound patio. The Apartment, located above sister restaurant, Jeffrey’s, is ideal for  intimate daytime parties or meetings with all the Josephine House favorites.

The breadth of Robert Chuey’s paintings spanned portrait, still life, landscape, and abstraction. The upscale seafood restaurant Perla’s has an iconic South Congress patio.

Grab some fresh-baked scones for the table, then make the difficult decision between citrus-cured lox and lemon ricotta pancakes. Serving an eclectic daily menu featuring the best locally sourced products. To defer entirely to the architect’s original vision, however, would mean “making a museum and not a house,” Campbell says.

Ho-hum empanadas, for instance, thrill again when they are filled with roasted onions and shishito peppers ($12). A croissant sandwich is a novelty when pastry is flaky and the meat inside it is thin-sliced smoked duck breast accented by tart cherry jam and cabbage slaw ($16). A BLT is elevated by grilled sourdough, roasted tomatoes, herbed pesto, and mustard greens.

An earlier interior view reveals how the artist arranged the home's light-filled studio space. Blackberry cobbler with homemade ice cream, peach upside-down cake with ginger ice cream and bourbon sauce, or blueberry tart with sweet corn ice cream ($8 each) are well-deserved after the strenuous exertions of a slow repast. Josephine House is the latest acquisition in the ever-expanding empire of the McGuire Moorman Hospitality Group, which has perfected the art of entertainment dining. Nestled up against the new Jeffrey's and serving only snacks and drinks during the evening hours, it seems like Josephine House's initial concept was as a stylish waiting area for the main attraction next door.
